Yoga basti effectively manages osteoarthritis symptoms

Osteoarthritis, a common degenerative disease seen in the elderly, is treated in Ayurvedic medicine with yoga basti. In a study published in the International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine, the effects of yoga basti in osteoarthritis were evaluated.

  • Researchers from India conducted the study by recruiting 30 people with osteoarthritis to participate.
  • Then, the study participants were randomly selected and treated with yoga basti every morning for eight days.
  • Results revealed that yoga basti treatment significantly improved all the symptoms of osteoarthritis.
  • It reduced pain, swelling, tenderness, and crepitus in patients.
  • In addition, it relieved knee joint stiffness and relieved the participants’ fatigue.
  • It also significantly improved the walking speed of the patients.
  • Furthermore, yoga basti was revealed to be safe and effective as all patients responded to the given treatment without experiencing any side effects and complications.

Based on the findings of the study, the researchers concluded that yoga basti is a safe and effective treatment for osteoarthritis as it reduces pain, swelling, tenderness, and crepitus, and improves the patients’ ability to walk.
